In the Area

Mid-coast Maine (from Brunswick to Belfast) is a great place to explore.  In addition to a variety of bookstores and art galleries and restaurants, there are fine museums.  Portland is an hour and fifteen minutes away.  Throughout the Damariscotta region, various nature conservancies have opened up guided trails.  Tidewater Way has two kayaks and two canoes and because our river is tidal, the water is usually warm enough for a swim in July and August.  In the winter, the field around the Cape has a gradual slope and is excellent for either cross country skiing or snowshoeing.  The Camden Snowbowl is the closest site for downhill skiing. Finally, The Lincoln County News is a wonderful resource for learning about what is going on in the area. For those who come for an intentional retreat, there are two off-site opportunities for reflection.  To the east in Rockland, the Rockland breakwater is a 3/4 mile linear labyrinth with a light house at the end.  To the west is The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens.
