Guiding Spirit

There are two spiritual voices that fill this place.  The first belongs to St. Benedict, whose model for Christian community in the sixth century was based upon worship, hospitality, service to others and communal work.  We want seekers and pilgrims to come to Tidewater Way and feel welcomed in our buildings and, especially, on the land and water.

The second voice is the song of creation.  As we continue to discover these thirty-seven acres (most of which is under conservation easement), "the beauty of nature's sights and sounds" (E.J. Dennen) speak to us.  The spruce and pine along the shore point beyond; the tide comes and goes twice a day and we are drawn to the rocky shore via a narrow bog bridge that leads to an island in the river.  Along the shore, the Stations of the Cross point to the deeper pilgrimage in which Jesus invites us to walk into the mystery of God's love.  Throughout the property there are places to sit and stop and reflect.

Finally, we care about discernment.  In this quiet place down the Pemaquid peninsula facing the ocean, you will have an opportunity to step aside from the busyness of life and reflect.  Over the years, we have discovered that our guests often arrive with weariness and leave with new questions.  The questions become a source of new engagement with God.
